Are your communications inclusive?

Inclusive language includes expressions that could apply to everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any aspect of the identity of a person, to avoid excluding or alienating them.

This language appears clearly or subtly in large-scale communications through collages of delighted faces belonging to different ethnicities, supposedly reflecting a well-established and lived Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (EDI). But what’s really happening at the team level and how do these beautiful concepts manifest themselves through the communications and actions of a conscious and inclusive leader?

You, leader, are you sensitive to the inclusive language you use? Are you clear about your personal reluctance towards what you perceive as different from you? Do you consciously discuss diversity, equity and inclusion with your collaborators and managers? Do you actively participate in developing a true sense of belonging through your leadership practices?
